# Capabilities

> The domain jobs MESO exposes, and the products built on them.

A **capability** is a complete domain job, not a CRUD resource. There is one
endpoint per capability.

| Capability | Endpoint | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| Unit planning | `/unit-planning` | Turns learning outcomes into a sequenced unit plan |
| Lesson planning | `/lesson-planning` | Expands a unit lesson into a full lesson plan |
| Rubric | `/rubric` | Builds an assessment rubric from unit context |
| Assessment | `/assessment` | Generates assessment instruments against a rubric |
| Resource | `/resource` | Multi-step workflow for classroom resources |
| Slides | `/slides` | Builds a presentation from a lesson plan or topic |
| Hero image | `/unit-hero-image` | Generates unit cover imagery |
| Chat | `/chat` | Streaming assistant conversation |
| AI actions | `/ai-actions` | Short inline editing and rewriting operations |
| Transcription | `/whisper-transcribe` | Speech-to-text |
| Outcome recommendation | `/recommend-lo` | Suggests relevant learning outcomes |
| Assessment recommendation | `/recommend-as` | Suggests assessment approaches |
| Document ingestion | `/ingest-teacher-document` | Stores, extracts and indexes uploads |

## Products vs capabilities

The MESO product names are user-facing surfaces over these capabilities:

> [card] Planner
>
> Unit and lesson planning

> [card] Assist
>
> Chat

> [card] Align
>
> Curriculum alignment

> [card] Think
>
> Detailed multi-agent planning

> [card] Present
>
> Slides

> [card] Assess
>
> Rubrics and assessments

> [card] Organise
>
> Timetable and structure

> [card] Resource
>
> Classroom resources

> [card] Canvas
>
> The document editor

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Assist** is the chat surface. **Canvas** is the editor. They are distinct
> products and are frequently conflated — do not use the names interchangeably.
