# Lesson plans

> Expand a lesson in your unit into a full plan you can teach from.

A unit gives you a sequence of lessons. A lesson plan is one of those expanded
into something you can actually teach from.

## Generating one

Open the **Lessons** view of a unit and choose the lesson you want. MESO expands
it using the unit's context — the topic, the outcomes you selected, the year
group, and where this lesson sits in the sequence — so a lesson plan is
consistent with the unit around it rather than generated in isolation.

## What a lesson carries

From the unit sequence, each lesson already has:

* a **title** and a **duration**
* its **objectives**
* a **status** — planned, in progress or completed
* optionally: **activities**, an **assessment** note, **key learning**, and
  **resources**

Expanding it fills that out into a full plan.

## Editing it

Lesson plans open in [MESO Canvas](https://docs.mesolab.ai/teachers/canvas.md), the editor. You can
rewrite anything, and your edits are what persist — MESO does not overwrite your
work on a later generation.

> [!TIP]
>
> Treat the generated plan as a first draft from a colleague who knows the
> specification but not your class. The sequence and the outcome coverage are
> usually sound; the timings, the examples and the pitch are where your judgement
> matters.

## Checking it before you teach

> [!WARNING]
>
> Verify anything factual before it reaches a classroom — dates, quotations,
> formulae and worked answers. Where the plan cites a learning outcome reference,
> check it against the specification. MESO states an error as fluently as it
> states a fact.

## Attaching resources

Anything you generate in [Resources](https://docs.mesolab.ai/teachers/resource-types.md) can be created in
the context of a unit, which is how a worksheet or a quiz ends up associated
with the lesson it supports. See
[Create a resource](https://docs.mesolab.ai/teachers/create-a-resource.md).
