# Resource types

> The eight kinds of classroom resource MESO can generate.

MESO generates eight kinds of resource. That is the complete list — there are no
others.

| Resource | What it is for |

| **Quiz** | Quick checks of understanding |
| **Flashcards** | Recall practice, key terms and definitions |
| **Rubric** | A marking grid — see [Rubrics](https://docs.mesolab.ai/teachers/rubrics.md) |
| **Assessment** | An assessment instrument — see [Assessments](https://docs.mesolab.ai/teachers/assessments.md) |
| **Worksheet** | Written work for class or homework |
| **Activity** | A classroom activity |
| **Presentation** | A deck — see [Slides](https://docs.mesolab.ai/teachers/slides.md) |
| **Custom Resource** | Anything the other seven do not cover; you describe what you want |

## Quizzes

A quiz is one of two kinds, and you choose which:

* **Multiple choice** — four options per question
* **True or false** — two options per question

## Which to reach for

> **Custom Resource** is the escape hatch, not the starting point. The seven named
> types carry structure MESO knows how to build well; Custom asks it to work out
> the shape as well as the content, which is a harder job and a more variable
> result.

> If what you want is nearly a worksheet, ask for a worksheet and edit it.

## Rubrics and assessments in two places

Rubric and Assessment appear both here and inside a unit. The difference is
context, not capability:

| Generated | Knows about |
| - | - |
| Inside a unit | The unit's outcomes, topic and assessment method |
| As a standalone resource | Only what you type into the configuration |
