# Setting up your profile

> The short questionnaire MESO asks before you start planning, and why each answer matters.

The first time you sign in, MESO asks you a handful of questions. It takes a
couple of minutes, and two of the answers decide what you can plan afterwards.

You will see **six questions**, or five if your browser cannot do passkeys — the
welcome screen is not counted, because it is an invitation rather than a
question.

## The screens, in order

**1. Welcome to MESO**

An introduction. Nothing to fill in.

**2. What's your role?**

Teacher, or another role in the school. This tailors what MESO shows you.

**3. Where do you teach?**

Your school.

**4. What do you teach?**

**The one that matters most.** Your subjects and year groups. These decide
which curriculum specifications MESO plans against, so an incomplete answer
here shows up later as a subject you cannot select.

**5. How should MESO address you?**

The name MESO uses when it talks to you.

**6. Skip the password next time?**

Optional. Sets up a passkey so you can sign in with your device instead of a
password. Skipping it costs you nothing but convenience, and this screen is
not shown at all on a browser that cannot do it.

**7. How to work with MESO**

Five short points about using AI responsibly in planning. Accepting them
completes setup.

## What that last screen actually says

It is worth reading rather than clicking past, because it is the honest version
of what MESO is and is not:

> [accordion] Your judgement is the final check
>
> MESO drafts. You decide what reaches a classroom. Nothing it produces is
> ready to teach until a qualified teacher has read it.

> [accordion] The spec is the spec
>
> Plans are drafted against NCCA specifications and learning outcomes, and
> MESO shows you which ones it used. Where it cites an outcome, verify the
> reference before you rely on it.

> [accordion] It can be confidently wrong
>
> Dates, quotations, formulae and worked answers need checking. An AI system
> states an error with exactly the same fluency as a fact.

> [accordion] No identifiable student data
>
> Never paste a student's name, results, or personal circumstances into MESO.

> [accordion] Where your work is processed
>
> Your account, plans and documents are stored in the EU. Generating a plan,
> and anything you type into MESO Assist, sends that text to the United States
> for processing. Nothing you write is used to train third-party models, and
> you can export or delete everything from Settings.

## Changing your answers later

> [!TIP]
>
> Profile setup is optional and can be dismissed, and everything in it can be
> changed afterwards under **Settings → Account → Profile**. If a subject you
> teach is missing from a picker, that is the first place to look.
